    (В. Маяковский. Сергею Есенину - 1926 г.) Sterben ist hienieden keine Kunst./ Schwerer ists: das Leben baun auf Erden (W. Majakowski. An Sergej Jessenin. Übers. H. Huppert). Das Gedicht erschien einige Tage nach dem Freitod Jessenins (18.12.1925). Majakowski verurteilt darin den Selbstmord als "Ausweg" aus persönlichen und gesellschaftlichen Konflikten, in die ein Mensch verwickelt ist. Die vorstehenden Schlusszeilen des Gedichts periphrasieren die Worte Jessenins aus seinem letzten, vor dem Tode geschriebenen Gedicht: В э́той жи́зни умира́ть не но́во,/ Но и жить, коне́чно, не нове́й Sterben -, nun, ich weiß, dass hat es schon gegeben./ Doch: auch Leben gabs ja schon einmal (Übers. P. Celan) und polemisieren mit der darin enthaltenen pessimistischen Ansicht.
